FIFO tax reporting

Many tax authorities, including Spain's, require that when you sell fungible securities, the ones you bought first are treated as sold first — the FIFO method. Calculating that by hand once you've bought the same fund ten times is a reliable source of errors. netclariq does it for you, lot by lot. Our Spain tax pack is available today, with more countries on the roadmap.

Lot-by-lot traceability

Every purchase creates a lot with its date, quantity, price and fees. When you sell, netclariq consumes the oldest lots first and calculates the exact acquisition cost of what was sold, leaving the remaining lots untouched for future sales.

  • Acquisition cost including fees
  • Automatic consumption of the oldest lots first
  • Remaining quantity and cost per lot after every sale

Realized vs. unrealized gains

The portfolio separates what you've actually realized from what's only on paper. Unrealized gains tell you how the investment is doing; realized gains are what goes into the tax return for the year you sold.

Dividends, withholding and the year's result

Dividends and their withholding are recorded alongside the position that generates them. The tax summary groups capital gains and losses from sales, and investment income, by year — the split most tax authorities use.

Exportable and checkable

You can export the transaction detail and the year's summary as a CSV to review with your accountant or cross-check against the tax information your broker provides before filing.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use this to file my tax return?
It gives you the calculation and the lot-by-lot detail to carry over or cross-check, but netclariq doesn't file tax returns or provide tax advice. The responsibility for what you file is always yours.
Does it handle wash-sale-style loss restrictions?
The calculation applies FIFO to your transactions. Any rules restricting loss recognition on repurchases should be reviewed with your advisor, since they can depend on transactions outside netclariq.
What about foreign currency and fees?
Purchase and sale fees are added to the cost and proceeds. You record each transaction in the currency you actually traded, with its converted value.
