Import transactions from a CSV file

netclariq doesn't connect to your bank: your credentials stay yours. To avoid typing in every transaction by hand, import the CSV statement your online banking already offers.

1. Download your bank statement

In your online banking, look for the option to export or download transactions and choose the CSV format. Pick the period you haven't logged yet, usually the previous month.

2. Upload the file and map the columns

From Transactions, the import option asks for the file and the destination account. Then you indicate which column holds the date, which the description and which the amount. Negative amounts are read as expenses and positive ones as income.

  • Date in your bank's format (day/month/year or ISO)
  • Amount with a comma or dot decimal, with or without a currency symbol
  • Description as the transaction's description

3. Review before confirming

Before saving you'll see a preview of what will be created. This is the moment to discard lines you've already logged, such as loan installments or recurring items netclariq already generates on its own.

4. Let rules do the categorizing

Categorization rules assign a category based on the description text or the transaction type. Create a rule every time you classify something by hand, and within a couple of months imports will come in almost fully classified.

5. Reconcile the balance

When you're done, compare the account balance in netclariq with your bank's. If they match, the month is complete; if not, a transaction from that period is either missing or duplicated.

6. Coming from a spreadsheet?

If your data lives in a spreadsheet, download the migration template at netclariq.com/plantillas/movimientos.csv: it has the headers the import recognizes without extra mapping. The guide “Move your net worth spreadsheet to netclariq in 10 minutes” walks through the whole process, including investments and debts.

Frequently asked questions

Will transactions get duplicated if I import the same period twice?
Before creating anything, existing transactions for that account within the file's date range are checked, and matches are flagged and unchecked automatically so you can review them before confirming.
Can I import into several accounts at once?
No: each import is tied to one account. If you have several, repeat the process with each one's statement.
What about transfers between my own accounts?
They show up on both statements. Log one of them as a transfer between accounts and discard the other so it isn't counted twice.
